MNRE Attended the Global Wildlife Program 2023 Annual Conference

On 27th November 2023 at 09.00 a.m., Mrs. Chayanant Phakdeejit, the Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment had the welcome speech in the Global Wildlife Program 2023 Annual Conference with Dr. Adriana Moreira, the Representative of the Office of the Secretary of the Global Environment Facility (GEF). The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment was represented by the National Park, Wildlife and Plant Conservation Department, and the World Bank conducted the Global Wildlife Program from 27th November – 1st December 2023 in order to present and gain the experiences from the operations as well as the success of the Global Wildlife Program project and to support creating the cooperation networks. About 100 representatives from the public organizations, the Global Wildlife Program project, the GEF Agency and the allied international organizations as well as relevant experts from over 10 organizations from 30 countries joined the program at Hilton Hotel Sukhumvit Bangkok.

 The Global Wildlife Program (GWP) was developed from the Wildlife Conservation for Development Integrated Program (WCD IP), which was funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) with38 countries joining the program in order to prevent wildlife and plant crimes, to solve the conflicts between people and wild animals and to develop economic foundations through the program with the fund. Accordingly, Thailand’s National Park, Wildlife and Plant Conservation Department was supported by the  GEF-5 (2011 - 2015) to strengthening the capacity and incentives for the wildlife conservation in the western forest complex, the GEF-6 (2015 - 2018) for combating illegal wildlife trades focusing on ivories, rhino horns, tigers and pangolins in Thailand and the GEF-8 (2022 - 2026), which is developing the activities for restoring the population of the tigers and being approved by the cabinet of the GEF.
