MNRE Discusses Allocation of Remaining GEF-8 Global Environment Facility Funds for Supported Projects in Thailand

On February 23, 2024, at 09:00 a.m., Mr. Jatuporn Buruspat, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE), assigned Mr. Thalerngsak Phetsuwan, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the MNRE, to chair the first meeting in 2024 (1/2024) of the committee considering projects for support from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) at Meeting Room 202 of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment and via video conference. The meeting was attended by committee members and representatives from related ministries and agencies under the ministry.

The meeting acknowledged the outcomes of the 66th meeting of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Council, the first meeting of the Global Biodiversity Framework Fund (GBFF) Council, and the criteria for project proposals for support from the GBFF, a new fund established to support the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework by 2030. Additionally, the meeting was informed about the ten projects supported by the GEF in its eighth round (GEF-8: 2022-2026) in Thailand, with a total budget of 36.27 million US dollars. Furthermore, the meeting collectively reviewed and provided opinions on the allocation of the remaining funds that Thailand has been allocated from the GEF for project proposals that meet the criteria of the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
