On 12th December 2022, Mr. Thalerngsak Petchsuwan, the Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, and the representatives of the Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning, Pollution Control Department and the Department of National Park, Wildlife and Plant Conservation discussed about the environmental policies and cooperation between Thailand and the United States of America, which was represented by Ms. Jennifer R. Littlejohn, the Deputy Assistant Secretary-General of the Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs, and the colleaques.
Mr. Thelarngsak mentioned that Thailand focuses on the globally environmental problems including climate changes with the strong cooperation with all sectors in order to achieve the goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions announced in COP26. The country is also establishing the Department of Climate Changes and Environment in order to handle the mentioned problems. The country also focuses on preventing wildlife trafficking and solving air pollution problems. The continuous supports from the United States of America for operations are also acknowledged.
The representatives of the United States of America showed the readiness to provide supports for Thailand such as the marine litter and plastic waste management, the biological diversities on the lands and in the seas, the prevention of wildlife trafficking as well as the water, scientific and technological management. The environmental issues may be discussed in the 190th anniversary of Thailand–United States diplomatic relations in 2023.
