"Varawut" Discussed with the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Germany for Expanding the Cooperation Regarding Climate Changes
On this day (3rd March 2023) at 04.30 p.m., Mr. Varawut Silpa-archa, the Minister for Natural Resources and Environment, and the colleagues welcomed Dr. Tobias Lindner, the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany, and the colleagues in the occasion of the discussions about the cooperation between Thailand and the Federal Republic of Germany at the lobby on the 20th floor of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.
Both parties agreed on the cooperation between Thailand and Germany in various aspects that has been established for a long time and successful, especially supporting policies and actions about climate changes such as Thai Rice NAMA (Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Action). This action does not only reduce the greenhouse gas emissions from the agricultural sector, but it also generates additional incomes for farmers. Thailand is taking actions in various aspects in order to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and zero greenhouse gas emission by or before 2065. Thailand supports electric cars,
charging stations, hydrogen energy and floating solar farms. Thailand also focuses on increasing the prices of carbon through the carbon credit mechanism as well as considers that changing people's thoughts is challenging and leading to
tangible actions.
Moreover, the guidelines about biodiversity caused by the climate changes were discussed. Thailand was evaluated by the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) that the country was a top country with the biodiversity. The country also joined the High Ambition Coalition (HAC), which focused on actions improving the qualities of people's lives. In this occasion, both parties agreed to strengthen the relationship between the two countries and expand the cooperation regarding the actions about the climate changes for waste management and other aspects.
