MNRE Discussed with IUCN to Mutually Develop the Natural Conservation Relationship with Thailand

On this day (9th March 2023) at 08.30 a.m., Mr. Varawut Silpa-archa, the Minister for Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE), Mr. Jatuporn Burupat, the Vice-Minister, and the managers of the Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning, the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources and the Department of Water Resources welcomed Dr. Bruno Oberle, the Director-General of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the colleagues in the occasion of visiting Thailand. They had discussions at the lobby on the 20th floor of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

They exchanged the experiences in natural conservations and world heritage protections. IUCN had the roles globally promoting natural conservations, and it is a central organization coordinating with countries and other organizations for implementations with all members around the world. Thailand has been a member of IUCN since 1961. In this occasion, the Director-General of IUCN discussed about making the Host Country Agreement (HCA) in order to establish the IUCN office in the Asian region in Thailand and showed the readiness to be an organization supporting Thailand’s operations, especially nominating the conserved Andaman Sea for being a new natural world heritage of Thailand. Accordingly, MNRE emphasized the importance of closely working together in order to develop correctly consistent understandings and to correctly communicate Thailand’s natural conservation information to the world community. MNRE also appreciated IUCN for continuously cooperating with and supporting Thailand’s operations for the whole time and hoped that good cooperation will be developed.
