MNRE Discussed with the U.S. Ambassador in Thailand to Develop the Cooperation about Natural Resources and Environment

On this day (10th March 2023) at 11.00 a.m., Mr. Varawut Silpa-archa, the Minister for Natural Resources and Environment, and Mr. Thalerngsak Petchsuwan, the deputy permanent secretary, and Mrs. Chayanant Phakdeejit, the assistant of the permanent secretary, welcomed Mr. Robert F. Godek, the United States of America Ambassador in Thailand and colleagues in order to discuss about the challenges and guidelines for the cooperation about natural resources and environment between the two countries at the lobby on the 20th floor of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

 Both parties discussed about the guidelines for solving the problems about climate changes since the United States supports Thailand and Mehong Basin regarding the adaptations to the climate changes and air pollutions. Universities and educational institutes can participate in solving the problems. Moreover, they were also interested in preventing illegal wildlife trades across borders. They were also willing to expand the cooperation in both public and private sectors with Thailand.

MNRE mentioned that the environmental issues are the issues that Thailand must integrate all ministries in order to mutually drive operations, obtain concrete achievements and develop people’s awareness. Regarding the operations about the climate changes, the Thai private sector was prepared for the world-class environmental policies of Europe and U.S. that will affect Thailand. Regarding illegally wildlife trades, Thailand uses the Smart Patrol system in order to prevent the causes of the problems instead of arrests that does not solve the causes of the problems.
