MNRE Attended NPCCC for Supporting the Thai Industries to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions under NACAG

On this day (5th April 2023) at 10.30 a.m., Mr. Varawut Silpa- archa, the Minister for National Resources and Environment, assigned Mr. Jatuporn Buruspat, the Permanent Secretary for National Resources and Environment (PSNRE) the representative attending the National Policy Conference on Climate Change (NPCCC) No. 1/2566 with Dr. Phirun Saiyasitpanich, the Secretary of the Office of Natural Resources and Environment Policy and Planning, General Prawit Wongsuwan, the Deputy Prime Minister, as the speaker of the conference, experts and committees from responsible organizations in the Five Provinces Forest Charity’ Conference Room with the video conference system.

At this NPCCC, the resolution was made to join and receive the financial supports from the Nitric Acid Climate Action Group (NACAG) in order to reduce nitrous oxide emissions that make earth hotter for 265 times of carbon dioxide. As a result, the greenhouse gas emissions will be reduced for 130,000 tons carbon dioxide per year. Accordingly, technologies will be transferred to the private sector of Thailand and supports will be provided for achieving the country’s goals to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions. It was also agreed to make the (drafted) maps of areas that may have land slides in Thailand with the scale of 1:250,000 and cover the risk areas of 135,000 square kilometers. The Ministry of National Resources and Environment was also assigned to have presentations to the cabinet for considerations and approvals before publishments and applications by the responsible organizations in order to be prepared for reducing losses and damages to people’s properties.

At the conference, the offers from the Thai Rice GCF project were also acknowledged in order to ask for the financial supports for the green climate fund for changing the Thai farmers’ ways to farming with low greenhouse gas emissions and handling climate changes. The operating areas are 4.5 million rai and cover 21 provinces in the central part and the northeastern part. The operation results were acknowledged according to the resolutions of NPCCC in 2022 with 17 issues. All operations were completed such as the participation in the Glasgow Leaders’ Declaration on Forests and Land Use, the amended version of the transfers of long-term strategies for the country’s developments for low greenhouse gas emissions and the 2nd amended version given to the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on climate Change, the preparations of the carbon credit management guidelines and mechanisms, and the drives for changing the private sector’s buses into electric (affiliated) buses in Bangkok’ areas.
