MNRE Discussed about Thailand’s Directions for Holding the Thai, Lao and Myanmar Leaders’ Conference for Solving the Interborder Smoke Problems
On this day (5th April 2023) at 01.30 p.m., Mr. Jatuporn Buruspat, the Permanent Secretary for National Resources and Environment (PSNRE), was the speaker in the conference for discussing about and deciding Thailand’s directions for solving the interborder smoke problems with the representatives from the Ministry of International Affairs, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, the Ministry of Industries, the Ministry of Defense, the Officer of the Prime Minister and the Department of Public Relations at the auditorium on the 17th floor of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment with the VDO conference system in order to prepare the holding the leaders’ conference of Thailand, the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and the Lao People’s Democratic Republic on 7th April 2023.
PSNRE mentioned that the wild fires caused the smokes in many areas, especially the northern part and border areas of Thailand. These also affected the value of PM2.5. It is also predicted that climates do not tend to have rains until May 2023. So, the problems are considered as urgent and require discussing with Laos and Myanmar in order to improve the cooperation for solving the interborder smokes. General Prayuth Chan-o-cha, the Prime Minister, valued the mentioned issues. So, the leaders’ conference with the Lao and Myanmar leaders was scheduled to be on Friday 7th April 2023. On the same day, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment also held the seniors’ conference of Thailand, Laos and Myanmar in order to specify the guidelines for improving the solutions for the interborder smoke problems in the three countries. The Pollution Control Department was assigned to be the coordinator to solve the smoke problems with the Ministry of International Affairs and to specify negotiation frameworks for developing the cooperation for solving the interborder smoke problems in the region.
