Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Jatuporn, emphasized Thailand's position at the United Nations Forestry Forum to create cooperation to take care of forests according to the concept of BCG Model.
On May 8, 2023, Mr. Jatuporn Buruspat, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment as head of the Thai delegation, along with Mr. Surachai Ajonbun, Director General of the Royal Forest Department, Mr. Apichai Ekwanakul, Acting Director General of the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources participate in the 18th United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFF18) at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, USA, which is scheduled to be held from 8 - 12 May 2023. UNFF is organized to discuss ways to develop forestry work. according to the United Nations Forest Strategic Plan 2017 – 2030 that is linked and aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals and the Framework Agreement on Biological Diversity.
Mr. Jatuporn said that this UNFF18 meeting was attended by representatives from more than 150 member countries, including related international organizations as head of the Thai delegation. He said to the meeting that Thailand is committed to the conservation and restoration of terrestrial and mangrove forests. The goal is to increase the green area to 55 percent of the country's area according to the 20-year national strategy, based on the conceptual framework of the BCG model, which covers economic, social and environmental sector development with the cooperation of all sectors in the management of the country's forests including the development and enforcement of effective laws. In addition, there are plans to discuss with relevant organizations to continue broader cooperation both domestic and international organizations for maximum achievement Therefore, I would like to urge the people and all relevant parties to focus on the forest's existence to be the foundation for sustainable development of the economy and the quality of life of humans and wildlife of the country and of the world.
During UNFF18, there are also parallel activities of member countries that present their work, ideas, discuss and exchange new knowledge on various issues. And the results from the meeting in this forum will be discussed at the Senior Political Leaders Meeting on Sustainable Development Goals or SDG Summit, which will be held in September 2023.
