MNRE discuss preparations for the 33rd ASEAN Meeting on Conservation of Nature and Biodiversity

Today (June 6, 2023) at 9:30 a.m., Mr. Jatuporn Buruspat, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment assigned Mr. Talengsak Petchsuwan, Deputy Permanent Secretary to be the chairman of the 2/2023 Meeting of the Biodiversity Sub-Committee on Negotiation and International Cooperation with the subcommittees and relevant agencies The Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning acts as secretariat at the meeting room on the 17th floor of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to consider (draft) the framework for the 33rd meeting of the ASEAN Working Group on Conservation of Nature and Biodiversity and the 10th meeting of the ASEAN Heritage Park Committee in Manila, the Republic of the Philippines.

The meeting considered important issues concerning the registration of protected areas of ASEAN Heritage Parks in Thailand. It shall support the submission of a Register of Protected Areas of ASEAN Member States if it is consistent with criteria and its scope from the boundary line is appropriate and sufficient so as not to prejudice Thailand's territorial rights under international law. It includes considering the implementation of regional nature and biodiversity conservation and related projects and supporting the improvement of the organizational structure of the ASEAN Center on Biodiversity to enable the ASEAN Center to support Member States in accordance with its objectives in non-monetary forms and to allocate money for the project according to the approval of the project supervisory committee It also supports an action plan and a plan for integrating biodiversity into agriculture and proposes the preparation of an annual action plan supporting the establishment of the ASEAN Biodiversity Goals. It includes an ASEAN Working Group Action Plan on Conservation of Nature and Biodiversity that is aligned with the Kunming-Montreal Framework on Global Biodiversity.
