ASEAN recognizes Phu Khiao Forest - Nam Nao National Park and Phu Kradueng National Park as the 56th and 57th ASEAN Heritage Parks. Ban Hua Hin Municipal Demonstration School received the ASEAN Eco-Schools Award

On August 1, 2023, Mr. Jatuporn Buruspat, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, as ASEAN Chief Environmental Officer for Thailand, assigned Mr Thalergsak Petchsuwan, Deputy Permanent Secretary, to head the Thai delegation for attending the 34th ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Environment together with representatives from ASEAN Member States in Bogor, Republic of Indonesia. Mrs. Pornsri Suthanarak, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, along with representatives from the Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning, Pollution Control Department, Department of Environmental Quality Promotion, Department of Water Resources, Department of Groundwater Resources, Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (Public Organization) and Biodiversity-Based Economy Development Office (Public Organization) also attended the meeting.

The Meeting considered the registration of two ASEAN Heritage Parks (AHP) in Thailand, namely: Phu Khieo Wildlife Sanctuary and Nam Nao National Park is the 56th ASEAN Heritage Park and Phu Kradueng National Park is the 57th ASEAN Heritage Park. It has also certified Ban Hua Hin Municipality Demonstration School to receive the ASEAN Eco-Schools award in secondary and primary levels, along with certifying Mr. Montri Chuathaisong to receive the ASEAN Youth Eco-Champions Award. The Meeting also adopted a draft ASEAN Joint Statement on Climate Change for the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (COP28) in the United Arab Emirates and consider the draft schedule for the 17th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Environment: 17th AMME scheduled for August 23, 2023 in Lao PDR and the Ministerial Meetings of ASEAN Member States and Dialogue Partners, Japan, the United States and the European Union, to be held following the 17th AMME.

Thailand has also invited ASEAN Member States to attend meetings scheduled later this year, namely the ASEAN Guidelines on Water Resources Conservation in September 2023 and the “ASEAN Carbon Pricing Conference”between 6 - 7 November 2023 in Bangkok and the International conference on groundwater management that will be held in 2024 In addition, the meeting noted the progress of the work of the seven working groups, namely: Conservation of Nature and Biodiversity, Marine and Coastal Environment, Water Resources Management, Sustainable Urban Environment, Climate Change, Chemical and Waste Management and Environmental Studies, Sustainable Consumption and Production. It includes the implementation of ASEAN agreements, discussions on environmental performance of ASEAN Member States and the development of cooperation guidelines with ASEAN Dialogue Partners.
