Today (August 3, 2023), Mr. Thaloengsak Petchsuwan, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, has been appointed by Mr. Jatuporn Buruspat, Permanent Secretary as Thailand's Senior ASEAN Chief Environment Officer to head the Thai delegation for 2nd ASEAN - US High-Level Dialogue on Environment and Climate Change) and 20th ASEAN Plus three together with representatives from ASEAN Member States and Dialogue Partners in Bogor, Republic of Indonesia.

At the meeting with the United States, the meeting was exchanged on environmental policy and progress on cooperation among ASEAN member states with US agencies in the region such as the United State Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and USAID and discussed national climate change goals, including considering the draft ASEAN-US work plan on environment and climate change and scheduling the 1st ASEAN-U.S. Ministerial Dialogue on Environment and Climate on August 24, 2023 at Lao PDR.

ASEAN+3 discussed the ASEAN Plus Three Ocean Plastic Waste Cooperation Initiative. It is comprised of Japan, the People's Republic of China, and the Republic of Korea under the Regional Knowledge Center for Marine Plastic Debris in Japan and cooperation between ASEAN and the three Dialogue Partners, namely: 1. ASEAN-China: Framework of ASEAN-China Environmental Cooperation, Sustainable Cities and Marine Plastic Waste Reduction, etc. 2. ASEAN-Japan: on waste management, marine pollution, biodiversity, chemicals (mercury in medical devices) and climate change on emission reduction and adaptation and transparency. 3. ASEAN-Republic of Korea: In terms of air quality, Air Pollution Monitoring Satellite Data Network (PANDORA), Biodiversity Research Cooperation, ROK - Mekong, water management, environmental capacity building as well as future cooperation initiatives, the Green Transition Initiative (GTI), etc.
