Today (6 October 2023) at 9:30 a.m., Pol. Gen. Phatcharavat Wongsuwan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Natural Resources and Environment (Minister of Natural Resources and Environment), along with Mr. Jatuporn Buruspat, Permanent Secretary and the Ministry's executive team welcomed Mr. Settha Thavisin, Prime Minister and Minister of Finance on the occasion of honoring him as chairman of the Thailand Climate Action Conference: TCAC 2023 under the concept of “building strength and strengthening immunity against climate change for sustainable development” The Cabinet, ambassadors, international organizations, executives of government agencies, the private sector, and provincial governors attended the meeting between 6-7 October 2023 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center. It is considered a platform to create power to drive action on climate change in Thailand at all levels and in all sectors. It is on track to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2065. It is about strengthening immunity against climate change as committed to the international community. It includes disseminating operational progress, transferring global goals to operational directions in Thailand in order to be aware of the situation and jointly build readiness for action at all levels.
The Prime Minister said that in the past climate change has been an urgent issue in the world. Thailand has continuously implemented climate change operations and has intensively raised the level of operations at every stage. However, the government cannot solve this problem without the cooperation of everyone in society. Therefore, it is a great pleasure to see all sectors joining the event today. We hope today's meeting will serve as a platform for exchanging ideas, strengthening cooperation and working together. If we work together, we can achieve great things. He concluded by saying that many people view climate action as difficult and burdensome. In fact, it is an opportunity for Thailand and its businesses to move towards sustainability through a paradigm shift in the manufacturing and service sectors. Most leading organizations are now promoting the use of sustainability measures. We hope that this meeting will be successful and that the government is willing to listen to opinions and suggestions from this meeting.
Pol. Gen. Phatcharavat, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, mentioned that the TCAC 2023 meeting will be one of Thailand's important forums for exchanging opinions and expectations in order to lead to clear operations. The results of this meeting will be reported during the 28th session of the Conference of the Parties to the Framework Convention (COP28). It is scheduled to take place from 30 November - 12 December 2023 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. There is a tendency to push forward the issue of energy transition and upgrading the economy towards climate-friendly trade and investment.
