Today (November 6, 2023) at 9:30 a.m., Mr. Jatuporn Buruspat, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, presided over the opening speech of The ASEAN Carbon Pricing Conference together with H.E. Mr. NASHIDA Kazuya, Ambassador of Japan to Thailand, H.E. Mr. Pedro Zwahlen, Ambassador of the Swiss Confederation to Thailand and Mr. David Thomas, Deputy Head of the Diplomatic Mission of the British Embassy in Thailand, were ready to welcome representatives from all 10 ASEAN member countries, including international organizations, more than 200 people attended the meeting between 6 - 7 November 2023 at Eastin Grand Hotel, Phayathai, Bangkok.
The ASEAN Carbon Pricing Conference is a collaboration of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment through TGO in collaboration with UNFCCC Regional Collaboration Center: UNFCCC-RCC, Global Green Growth Institute: GGGI, Japan International Cooperation Agency: JICA, British Embassy in Thailand and Swiss Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs It is to provide a platform for exchanging ideas and experiences in developing and implementing a carbon pricing mechanism to drive greenhouse gas emissions reductions in the ASEAN region. It includes strengthening international cooperation in order to design policies, measures and mechanisms to address climate change in various dimensions in an efficient, transparent and reliable manner. In addition, Thailand has proposed the establishment of the Department of Climate Change and Environment to accelerate work on climate change and proposed progress in drafting the Climate Change Act to enhance the potential of the government sector in implementing greenhouse gas reduction and adaptation It covers increasing the participation of the private sector and civil society in tackling global warming together on the global stage.
