Today (15 November 2023) at 4:00 p.m., Pol. Gen. Phatcharavat Wongsuwan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Natural Resources and Environment (Minister of Natural Resources and Environment) welcomed H.E. Mr. Ernst Wolfgang Reichel, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Thailand, on the occasion of paying a courtesy call at the reception room, 20th floor, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.
Pol. Gen. Phatcharavat congratulated H.E. Mr. Ernst Wolfgang Reichel on accepting the new position and thanked the Federal Republic of Germany for its continuous support of climate change for Thailand. They also discussed the direction and expectations of the 28th Conference of States Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 28), to be held from 30 November - 12 December 2023 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, of the commitment of Member States to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. It is in line with the Paris Agreement, which aims to keep global temperature increases below 1.5 degrees Celsius, as well as accelerating the energy transition and supporting the use of renewable energy three times by 2030. It will increase energy efficiency and provide financial support from developed countries to $100 billion by 2025, including the creation of a fund for loss and damage arising from climate change.
H.E. Mr. Ernst Wolfgang Reichel also invited Thailand to become a member of the Climate Club, which is a forum to discuss and exchange various technological approaches for reducing greenhouse gases in the industrial sector, especially industries with high energy demand. It would be beneficial and an opportunity for Thailand to receive support in strengthening its technological and financial capacity. Thailand is pleased to join the Climate Club. However, it is in the process of following the procedures within the country before joining in the official support. Both sides are also willing to work closely together to support the achievement of global greenhouse gas emissions reduction goals together with member countries.
