MNRE Discussed with Asian Development Bank to Improve Thailand’s Potentials to Achieve Thailand Net Zero

Today (28th November 2023) at 02.00 p.m., Mr. Thalerngsak Petchsuwan, the Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment welcome and discussed with Mr. Anouj Metha, the Director of the Office of the Representatives of the Asian Development Bank in Thailand and colleagues. The representatives of Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, the Department of Climate Change and Environment, Pollution Control Department and Office of the Permanent Secretary discussed together in the conference room on the 16th floor of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

Both parties discussed about the proposal of the Thailand Net Zero 2050 Green Finance Platform under the proposal of the Asian Development Bank. The objectives are as follows: 1) to support the operations according to the climate and environmentally friendly operation policies, 2) to develop the potentials of the personnel and the knowledge leading to practices, especially in the local administration level, 3) to develop the guidelines for conducting the environmentally friendly projects in challenging fields and 4) to find clear guidelines for hastening non-government Financing. The supports can be categorized into two forms: 1) supporting the consultants and academic supports that cover the framework and environmentally friendly policy developments, the institutes’ potential developments and the preparations of the proposals of environmentally friendly projects with grant funds; and 2) providing budgets for conducting the projects in the form of loan funds.

Moreover, the deputy permanent secretary shared the important policies under the new government, the ministry’s natural resources and environment guidelines and policies, the solutions for solving climate change problems and the marine and coastal resources conservations as well as discussed with Asian Development Bank about the bank’s guidelines for supporting the future environmental operations for Thailand such as establishing a fund for supporting the operations about climate changes, solving the PM2.5 problems, achieving the 30 by 30 goals, having operations about biodiversity, and eliminating plastic wastes. The Asian Development Bank is willing to cooperate with the operations about the mentioned issues.
