Uplifting People's Living Conditions for the Benefit of All: "Phatcharavat" Leads the Executive Team from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE) in Adopting the Budget Planning Policy for 2025

On Jan. 12, 2024, 2:00 p.m., Pol. Gen. Phatcharavat Wongsuwan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, along with Mr. Jatuporn Buruspat, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, and senior executives of agencies under the MNRE attended the meeting and received policy guidelines regarding the budget planning for fiscal year 2025 from Mr. Srettha Thavisin, Thailand’s Prime Minister and Minister of Finance.

At the inauguration ceremony of the  seminar on policy and standards on preparing the budget for the fiscal year 2025 at the Royal Jubilee Ballroom, Challenger Building, 1st floor, IMPACT Exhibition and Convention Center, Muang Thong Thani, Pak Kret District, Nonthaburi Province, the Prime Minister gave social policies consisting of seven policy groups: 1) Systemic Debt Settlement, 2) Educational Development, 3) Land Rights, 4) Drugs and Gangsters, 5) Public Health, 6) Equality, and 7) Environment and the Well-being of people. The government will continue to prioritize these social policies by 2025.

In addition, the Prime Minister has issued a policy on the environment and people's well-being that shall be continuously developed throughout the term of this government, including electric trains, tap water, clean air, a good environment, and the development of a clean water supply system that is entirely available for people's consumption. To illustrate, there will be complete water management, development of water management for the entire basin, improvement of irrigation systems and water distribution in irrigation areas, expansion of the irrigation area to 40 million rai, and proper management of water sources outside of irrigation areas and community water sources.

Furthermore, the new policy prioritizes environmental issues on a national scale, particularly PM 2.5 dust and smog at both the national and local levels. There are targeted areas that include conserved forest areas, protected national forest areas, and agricultural areas that are frequently burned. It will also establish an operational mechanism for the private sector to participate in addressing the issue of cross-border smog pollution. The mechanism put in place must actually be driven and be able to support Thailand to become a leader in ASEAN in reducing carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere (Carbon Neutrality), raising production efficiency, providing services at low costs, promoting access to technology that is necessary for the transition to a green economy, acting as service providers in using clean energy, garbage-waste disposal, and reducing carbon emissions that commensurate with the size and type of business.
