On February 19, 2024, Pol. Gen. Phatcharavat Wongsuwan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, officially received Ms. Amina J. Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations and Chair of the United Nations Sustainable Development Group, at the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. The purpose of Ms. Mohammed's visit was to engage in critical discussions concerning climate change and its impacts. A focal point of their deliberations was the persistent issue of PM 2.5 air pollution in which Pol. Gen. Phatcharavat elucidated that the PM 2.5 crisis is not solely a national concern but a regional one, as it is exacerbated by contributions from neighboring countries. He emphasized the potential role of international bodies, such as the United Nations and its Sustainable Development Group, led by Ms. Mohammed, in orchestrating collaborative solutions to this challenge.

Pol. Gen. Phatcharavat affirmed the Thai government's and the Ministry's unwavering support for the United Nations' efforts in addressing climate change, a pressing issue for the global community. He expressed optimism for continued partnership with the UN in this endeavor.

In response, Ms. Amina J. Mohammed commended Pol. Gen. Phatcharavat's proactive stance on global warming and environmental management. She highlighted the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment's initiatives, such as the proposed Clean Air Management Act and waste management strategies, including the "Waste to Wealth" project, as exemplary measures worthy of recognition at the United Nations General Assembly. Furthermore, Ms. Mohammed noted that the UN's guidelines on carbon credit trading could facilitate the development of a carbon credit market in Thailand, offering a promising avenue for environmental and economic sustainability.
