The MNRE Joins Global Leaders at the United Nations Environment Assembly in Kenya

Today (February 29, 2024) at 10:00 AM (local time in the Republic of Kenya), Mr. Tha-lerngsak Petchsuwan, the Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, in his capacity as the head of the Thai delegation, attended the 6th session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA 6) along with representatives from agencies un-der the ministry including the Office of Natural Resources and Environmental, the Pollution Control Department, the Department of Climate Change and Environment, and representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. They participated in the opening ceremony of the High-Level Segment of the UNEA 6 meeting at the headquarters of the United Nations Environment Programme in Nairobi, Republic of Kenya.

On this occasion, Deputy Permanent Secretary, Mr. Thalerngsak delivered a statement on behalf of Thailand, emphasizing Thailand's commitment to working with the world to move to-wards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through the BCG Model, which focuses on human-centered development. This approach is facilitated by the development of le-gal frameworks and policy settings to achieve Thailand's goals and international commitments, such as the Climate Change Act aimed at controlling greenhouse gas emissions, enhancing adapt-ability to climate conditions, with a target of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 and net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2065. Additionally, the Clean Air Act focuses on preventive measures against air pollution, as well as the integration of scientific data, and local wisdom for a transition to a low-carbon, circular, natural, and resilient society. Furthermore, he emphasized the need for all stakeholders to take immediate action at all levels. The outcomes of this UNEA ses-sion are expected to contribute further to addressing global challenges
