Thai-French Pact Sealed to Foster Environmental Conservation, Biodiversity, and Species Protection
Today (May 2, 2024) at 09:00, Pol. Gen. Phatcharavat Wongsuwan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, assigned Mr. Jatuporn Buruspat, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, as Thailand's representative to sign the memorandum of understanding on environmental conservation, biodiversity, and species protection with Mr. Jean-Claude Poimbœuf, Ambassador of France to Thailand, with Mr. Prasert Sirinapaporn, Secretary General of the Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning, and officials from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and French Embassy officials as witnesses, at Auditorium Room, Tipco Tower 1, Bangkok.
Mr. Jatuporn stated that this cooperation agreement serves as significant evidence that both countries are committed to promoting environmental conservation and policy integration through concrete joint activities, aiming to achieve national goals, including the Convention on Biological Diversity, the Paris Agreement, and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It will serve as a mechanism to enhance knowledge, understanding, cooperation, and policy integration between Thailand and France through cooperation in two main areas: biodiversity and climate change, and sustainable management of marine and coastal resources. This is a joint effort between the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Thailand and the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Territorial Equality of the French Republic. Both countries are currently developing plans and operational guidelines to ensure that the cooperation under the aforementioned memorandum is implemented effectively and beneficially for biodiversity conservation efforts.
