MNRE Hosts Workshop Promoting Marine Environmental Protection in South China Sea, Backs ASEAN-China Cooperation

On May 16, 2024, at 9:00 a.m., Mr. Jatuporn Buruspat, Permanent Secretary of MNRE, designated Mr. Kuson Chotirat, MNRE’s Deputy Permanent Secretary, to preside over the opening of the "Track 1.5 Workshop on Marine Environmental Protection in the South China Sea" at the Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel, Bangkok. This workshop drew over 50 representatives from ASEAN member countries and the People's Republic of China, all gathered to enhance cooperation within the ASEAN-China framework concerning Marine Environmental Protection (MEP) in the South China Sea. Participants exchanged academic insights on marine environmental protection, paving the way for future collaborative endeavors.

Hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, specifically the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, this meeting provided the platform for discussions spanning May 16-17, 2024. While the workshop unfolded on May 16 at the Royal Orchid Sheraton Hotel, Bangkok, the subsequent day, May 17, saw a study tour to the Upper Gulf of Thailand Coastal Research and Development Center and the Mangrove Forest Research and Development Center No. 2, situated in Samut Sakhon Province.
