MNRE Opens 4th National Seminar on Antimicrobial Resistance for Knowledge Exchange and Solutions

On June 12, 2024, at 9:30 AM, Mr. Jatuporn Buruspat, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE), assigned Mr. Kuson Chotirat, MNRE’s Deputy Permanent Secretary, to participate in the opening ceremony of the national seminar “The 4th National Forum on Antimicrobial Resistance.” This event, organized by the Ministry of Public Health, is taking place from June 12 to 13, 2024, under the theme “Save Lives, Fight Resistance” at the Cattleya Conference Room, Rama Gardens Hotel, Bangkok. The national seminar is held biennially to serve as a platform for exchanging academic knowledge on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR).

Mr. Kuson, MNRE’s Deputy Permanent Secretary, stated that Pol. Gen. Phatcharavat Wongsuwan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, places an importance on addressing environmental pollution. He has assigned the Pollution Control Department as the principal agency to coordinate, survey, collect data, and monitor the contamination of antimicrobial agents in the environment, including wastewater from communities, hospitals, and surface water contamination. This initiative follows the One Health concept and aims to integrate data from various sectors to develop control measures, preventive strategies, and solutions. Additionally, this data will support the improvement of surface water quality standards, wastewater discharge standards from buildings, and standards for community wastewater treatment systems in the future. Moreover, MNRE hopes that today’s cooperation from all sectors will lead to effective solutions for tackling antimicrobial resistance in the environment in the future.
