Today (August 7, 2024) at 11:00 AM, Mr. Thalerngsak Phetsuwan, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE) as a spokesperson for the Ministry, presided over a press conference for the 2nd Thailand Groundwater Symposium. The symposium, "Strengthening Groundwater Sustainability under Climate Change," will occur from August 19-21, 2024, at The Berkeley Hotel, Pratunam, Bangkok. It will be followed by field visits on August 22-23, 2024, in Phetchaburi and Prachuap Khiri Khan. Mr. Yongyut Nakawiroj, Deputy Director General of the Department of Groundwater Resources, also attended the press conference held in the press room on the 1st floor of the MNRE.

The international groundwater conference will serve as a platform for exchanging and presenting groundwater-related research and discussing reforms in groundwater management both nationally and internationally. It aims to gather knowledge from groundwater experts across various countries to apply and advance future groundwater research ideas, promoting the progress of groundwater resource science in Thailand through learning and experience exchange. Also, this event will elevate the quality of groundwater research and academic work on an international stage and foster relationships among Thailand's academic networks and other groundwater agencies at both national and international levels. Over 15 countries are expected to participate, with conference topics including (1) Innovation in Groundwater Science and Technology, (2) Groundwater Security and Sustainability, and (3) Groundwater Governance, Management, and Policy. The field visits will include the King’s Royal Project at Chang Hua Man and the Huai Sai Royal Development Study Center, areas where groundwater plays a crucial role in both daily life and agriculture.
