MNRE Engages in 28th Working Group Annual Summit on Environment Under the Framework of Economic Cooperation in the Greater Mekong Subregion: GMS WGE AM28

Today, September 12, 2024, Mr. Thalerngsak Phetsuwan, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE), led the Thai delegation at the 28th Annual Meeting of the Greater Mekong Subregion Working Group on Environment (GMS WGE AM28) in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Accompanying him were representatives from the Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning, the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, the Pollution Control Department, the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, the Department of Climate Change and Environment, the Greenhouse Gas Management Organization, the Department of International Cooperation, the National Economic and Social Development Council, the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation. The meeting brought together representatives from GMS member countries and the Asian Development Bank at Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra, Cambodia.

The meeting focused on discussions surrounding frameworks to address the intensifying challenges of natural resource management, environmental protection, and climate change in the Mekong subregion. The aim is to expedite actions towards green growth, enhance climate resilience, and strengthen natural resource and environmental management through integrated approaches involving member countries and diverse sectors. A particular emphasis was placed on combatting plastic pollution, with participants sharing best practices and expertise to tackle this regional issue. The meeting also discussed promoting circular economy practices and financing for low-carbon transitions, aimed at ensuring environmental sustainability alongside the region’s development.
