On October 4, 2024, at 3:00 p.m., Mr. Prasert Jantararuangtong, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Economy and Society, presided over the closing ceremony of the 3rd Thailand Climate Action Conference (TCAC 2024) under the theme "Accelerating the Climate Transition." During the event, he delivered a special address and visited exhibitions at the SX 2024. The ceremony was attended by Mr. Jatuporn Buruspat, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE), and other ministry executives, at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Bangkok.

The Deputy Prime Minister remarked that this conference served as an essential platform for exchanging ideas and fostering cooperation on climate change, significantly impacting the Thai population. Climate change is a pressing issue close to home, and Thailand has set ambitious targets: achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 and net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2065. The country aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2030, with government plans in place to integrate all sectors in mitigating emissions. By 2030, greenhouse gas reductions are expected to reach 222 million tons. In addition, the government prioritizes disaster warning systems and is accelerating the development of financial mechanisms to support climate action, enabling the public and private sectors to adapt effectively. Thailand also continues to produce clean energy from solar, wind, water, and other alternative sources, while promoting the carbon credit trading market. The government is committed to fostering a green economy, positioning it as Thailand's strength to attract more foreign investment. The upcoming COP 29 will highlight Thailand’s dedication to aligning with global climate strategies, and the collaboration of all sectors will be a driving force in the country’s transition toward a low-carbon society. Today may mark a small beginning, but there is confidence that together, we can create significant change and leave a sustainable world for future generations.

Over the two days of the TCAC 2024 conference, more than 4,500 participants attended, gaining knowledge on Thailand's climate change initiatives and global objectives under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Paris Agreement. The event also featured exhibitions and presentations on topics such as the new Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC 3.0), which sets emissions reduction targets by 2035, and the progress of climate efforts in Thailand, particularly in agriculture and sustainable urban development, key elements in creating a low-carbon lifestyle. Additionally, disaster warnings, capacity-building initiatives, and projects under King Rama X's Royal Patronage were emphasized for their significant contributions to improving the well-being of the Thai people. The progress on drafting the Climate Change Act, intended to be Thailand’s primary legal framework for international obligations and global initiatives, was also presented. The success of this conference will be showcased at the Thailand Pavilion during the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP 29) of the UNFCCC, to be held from November 11-22, 2024, in Baku, Azerbaijan.
