MNRE Welcomes EJF Foundation to Discuss Thailand’s Plastic Pollution Reduction Efforts

On November 13, 2024, at 9:00 AM, Dr. Chalermchai Sri-on, Minister of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE), assigned Mr. Apichart Sakdiset, an MNRE consultant, to welcome Mr. Dominic Thomson, Regional Director (Southeast Asia) of the Environmental Justice Foundation (EJF), and his team. The meeting focused on Thailand’s efforts to reduce plastic pollution, including the draft Sustainable Packaging Management Act and legally binding international measures to address marine pollution. The EJF presented progress on its projects in Thailand, such as Net Free Seas and Bottle Free Seas. Representatives from the Pollution Control Department (PCD) and the International Affairs Division of the Ministry's Secretariat also participated in the meeting, held on the 16th floor of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment building.

Mr. Apichart expressed gratitude to EJF for its support and reaffirmed MNRE's commitment to tackling plastic pollution. He highlighted the importance of an inclusive approach, encouraging input from all relevant sectors on legislative drafts, international negotiations, and marine environment protection. This collaborative effort will guide Thailand’s policy decisions on pollution reduction in the future.
