MNRE Joins Mekong Subregion Countries in Workshop on Leveraging Digital Technology for Sustainable Climate and Environmental Solutions
On December 3, 2024, at 9:00 AM, Dr. Chayanan Pakdeejit, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE), inaugurated a workshop titled “Digital Technologies for Climate Action and Environmental Sustainability” at the Sukosol Hotel in Bangkok. Representatives from Mekong Subregion member countries, including China, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam, attended alongside officials from Thai ministries and agencies. Dr. Chayanan highlighted key environmental challenges in the region, such as biodiversity loss, climate change, and pollution. She emphasized the role of digital technologies—including artificial intelligence, blockchain, drones, and mobile applications—in addressing these issues and supporting green transitions for sustainable development.
The workshop provided a platform for member nations to share experiences and develop collaborative strategies. Discussions focused on leveraging digital tools for pollution monitoring, sustainable forest management, disaster risk reduction, and carbon credit trading. The event also aimed to develop innovative projects for transboundary climate and environmental solutions.
Guidelines for addressing climate change challenges involve the application of digital technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), blockchain, drones, and mobile applications to tackle key environmental issues. These include monitoring pollution, preserving biodiversity, promoting sustainable forest management, reducing disaster risks, and facilitating carbon credit trading.
Additionally, collaborative efforts are underway to establish regional strategies for addressing cross-border climate and environmental challenges within the subregion. These efforts aim to develop project proposals, innovations, and environmentally friendly technologies that address these issues while enhancing the sustainability of natural resources and the environment in the Mekong Subregion in the future.
