MNRE Reviews GEF-8 Fund Proposals for Global Environmental Support

On December 24, 2024, at 1:30 PM, Mr. Jatuporn Buruspat, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, assigned Dr. Chayanan Pakdeejit, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, to chair the 4th meeting of the Committee for Considering Projects Seeking Support from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) for 2024.

The meeting was attended by committee members from various departments under the Ministry, along with representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Office of the National Economic and Social Development Council, the Ministry of Public Health, the Ministry of Industry, the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation. The meeting was held in Conference Room 202, 2nd Floor, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, to review project proposals seeking support from GEF-8.

The committee approved two projects for submission to the Global Environment Facility (GEF) GEF-8:

1. Integrated Management of Key Biodiversity Areas and Priority Species through Other Effective Area-Based Conservation Measures (OECMs) by the Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning.

2. Building Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS) Framework for Biodiversity Conservation and Sustainable Use in Thailand by the Biodiversity-Based Economy Development Office (Public Organization).

The meeting also acknowledged progress in drafting project proposal documents for GEF-8 support and the results of the review of projects seeking funding from the Global Biodiversity Framework Fund (GBFF).
