MNRE Convenes World Heritage Committee Meeting to Monitor Progress on the Nomination of Wat Phra Mahathat Woramahawihan in Nakhon Si Thammarat as a World Heritage Site

On 17 June 2025, at 15:30 hrs., Dr. Chalermchai Sri-on, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE), assigned Mr. Jatuporn Buruspat, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE), to attend the 3/2025 meeting of the National Committee on the Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage, held at Meeting Room 301, Command Building, Government House. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Prasert Chantraruangthong. The meeting acknowledged progress in nominating the cultural heritage site “Wat Phra Mahathat Woramahawihan, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province,” for inscription on the World Heritage List, as well as progress in proposing the cultural heritage site “Phra Prang of Wat Arun Ratchawararam: The Identity of Rattanakosin” for inclusion on the Tentative List of the World Heritage Centre.

Additionally, the meeting considered the study of potential and feasibility for proposing cultural heritage sites, natural heritage sites, or mixed heritage sites in Mae Hong Son Province for World Heritage nomination. The timeframe for proposing cultural and natural heritage sites to the World Heritage List was also discussed, together with preparations for the 47th session of the World Heritage Committee. The meeting further included a summary of discussions with the World Heritage Centre and advisory bodies to the World Heritage Committee to clarify and foster understanding about the high-speed railway project section near Ayutthaya Station in the French Republic.
