MNRE Minister Launches the “Thai Sea Conservation Project,” Initiated by Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari, Aiming to Cultivate Sustainable Marine Conservation Awareness

Today (19 June 2025) at 9:15 a.m., Dr. Chalermchai Sri-on, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, presided over the opening of the Thai Sea Conservation Project, initiated by Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya. The Minister also presented honorary plaques to private sector entities, clubs, and volunteers for outstanding contributions to marine conservation. He led a team to collect waste along the beach and launched boats to conduct underwater garbage collection around coral reefs at Noppharat Thara Beach, Noppharat Thara–Phi Phi Islands National Park, Mueang Krabi District, Krabi Province.

Mr. Jatuporn Buruspat, Permanent Secretary, along with senior executives, Mr. Angkoon Siladevakul, Governor of Krabi Province, and representatives from the government, private sector, local communities, and over 500 students, participated. On this occasion, Dr. Chalermchai emphasized that the project reflects the unwavering royal commitment of Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari to unite Thais in preserving the nation’s marine resources sustainably. Achieving these goals requires collective efforts, especially from the younger generation.
The Ministry, through the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, continuously conserves Thailand’s seas in 26 marine national parks through patrolling, monitoring rare marine species, marine debris management, plastic reduction campaigns, research promotion, community participation, and environmental awareness to protect ecosystems and safeguard national resources sustainably. In addition, the Minister also underscored that marine and coastal resources are invaluable assets vital to natural security, the economy, and people’s livelihoods. Conservation efforts maintain ecosystem abundance, reduce the extinction risks of rare marine species, and protect shorelines from natural disasters. The Thai seas belong to everyone; conservation is therefore a shared mission for all Thais.
