On 21 July 2025 at 10:00 AM, Mr. Sitthichai Sereesongsaeng, Deputy Permanent Secretary of MNRE, chaired a meeting to prepare for the reception of two Takins, the national animal of the Kingdom of Bhutan. These animals are to be presented as a royal gift to His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua and Her Majesty Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana.
The meeting was attended by representatives from the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, the Zoological Park Organization of Thailand, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Department of South Asian, Middle Eastern and African Affairs, the Department of Livestock Development, the Customs Department, the Office of the Permanent Secretary, and other relevant agencies. The meeting was held in Room 202, 2nd Floor, MNRE, with additional participants joining via video conference.
The meeting reviewed comprehensive preparatory plans to ensure smooth and appropriate implementation. Key discussion points included site preparation and architectural design; animal care and health management; disease control and quarantine measures; import permits and air transport arrangements for the takin; customs duty and tax exemption procedures; budget framework; and the appointment of committees and working groups. During the meeting, Mr. Sitthichai Sereesongsaeng, as Chair, emphasized the need for all agencies to study all aspects of the operation thoroughly. He proposed sending officials to conduct in-depth studies in relevant fields and suggested inviting experts from Bhutan to participate in site assessments, budget planning, and related logistics to ensure the highest level of readiness and suitability in receiving the royal gift animals.
This initiative reflects the strong conservation collaboration between Thailand and Bhutan, and also serves as a tribute to the Royal Family, highlighting the deep and enduring ties between the two kingdoms.
