MNRE Launches the 4th Thailand Geopark Network Academic Seminar in Ubon Ratchathani Province

On 22 July 2025 at 09:00 AM, Mr. Sitthichai Sereesongsaeng, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE), presided over the opening ceremony of the 4th Thailand Geopark Network Academic Seminar for the year 2025. The seminar, themed “The Role of the Thailand Geopark Network in Sustainable Development”, was held at Sunee Grand Hotel and Convention Center, Ubon Ratchathani Province. The event was attended by the Governor of Ubon Ratchathani, officials from the Department of Mineral Resources, executives from Thailand's geoparks, representatives from all 11 geoparks in the national network, the Geological Society of Thailand, the Research Center for Paleontology, heads of government agencies, local administrative leaders, community leaders, youth, students, and the general public—over 500 participants in total.

This seminar was organized through a collaboration between the Department of Mineral Resources, MNRE, Ubon Ratchathani Provincial Administrative Organization, Ubon Ratchathani Province, the Geological Society of Thailand, and the Paleontological Research Center of Mahasarakham University, and was held from 21–25 July 2025. The objective was to create a platform for knowledge exchange, share experiences, and explore development strategies for geoparks in each region, while also strengthening cooperation among various agencies to advance Thailand’s geopark development to an internationally recognized and sustainable level. On this occasion, Mr. Sitthichai delivered a welcoming address to the seminar participants. He emphasized the importance of driving geopark initiatives, stating that this is a key mission of the Ministry. Beyond preserving geological heritage, geopark development contributes to local development by promoting grassroots economic growth and connecting geological knowledge with local lifestyles, cultures, and sustainable tourism. He further noted that successful geopark development must begin with public awareness of the value of geoconservation and inclusive participation from all sectors. This approach paves the way for innovation and the sustainable uplift of community economies, forming a vital force in the nation's continued development.
