28 January 2026, at 9:30 AM, Dr. Raweewan Bhuridej, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE), presided over the 1/2026 meeting of the Subcommittee on Biodiversity on the Coordination of Negotiation Positions and International Cooperation. The meeting was organized with the Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning (ONEP) serving as the secretariat, and was attended by relevant agencies. The meeting took place at Meeting Room 202, 2nd Floor, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

The meeting acknowledged the outcomes of meetings under the Convention on Biological Diversity and the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), the implementation under the ASEAN framework in 2025, and the results of applications for budgetary support to implement biodiversity-related projects from relevant international funding sources in 2025.

In addition, the meeting approved in principle the draft Seventh National Report on Biodiversity and the draft Fifth National Report on the Implementation of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety. Relevant agencies were assigned to submit additional information to further improve and finalize the draft reports prior to their submission to the relevant Convention Secretariats by 28 February 2026.

On this occasion, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment requested that relevant agencies review the details of projects that did not receive support from international funding sources, to consider proposing them for support from domestic research funding sources, particularly funds under the supervision of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI), which have the potential to support research and community development in local areas. This adjustment aims to promote MNRE’s access to government research and development funding, which amounts to more than 5,000 million baht per year, to enhance the Ministry’s future operations.
