Mr. Suchart Chomklin Forges Strategic Alliance, Signs Agreement on Marine Waste Management to Create New Value for a Sustainable Society

Mr. Suchart Chomklin, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE), presided over the signing ceremony of a Strategic Framework Memorandum of Cooperation for the management of marine and environmental resources in alignment with Sustainable Development Goal 14 (SDG 14). The agreement was signed between the Thai Coral Reef and Marine Life Conservation Foundation under the Patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya, the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, and five other partner agencies from both the public and private sectors, totaling six organizations. The ceremony took place at the Press Conference Room, 1st Floor, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

Mr. Suchart Chomklin, Deputy Prime Minister, stated that this collaboration represents an integration of efforts between the public sector, the private sector, and network partners to systematically address the issue of marine and coastal waste. The initiative promotes the concept of the Circular Economy by transforming marine waste into innovative new products through upcycling. An example of this is the production of "turning sheets for bedridden patients," which will be donated to the underprivileged through the Foundation. This initiative aims to create both social and environmental value while tangibly reducing the volume of marine debris. Furthermore, he expressed his gratitude to the private sector and partner agencies for their contributions to designing, developing, and manufacturing products from marine waste by applying knowledge, technology, and innovation to repurpose materials for the maximum benefit of society at large.

Dr. Pinsak Suraswadi, Director-General of the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, noted that this Memorandum of Cooperation has a duration of five years. It focuses on promoting marine waste management, the efficient use of resources, and the development of environmental innovations. The cooperation from all sectors will help elevate the conservation of marine resources alongside economic development and the improvement of the public's quality of life, steering the nation toward sustainable development in the future.
