Dr. Raweewan Bhuridej, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE), presided over the opening ceremony and the presentation of the National G-GREEN Awards today at 9:30 a.m. The event, held at the Centara Life Government Complex Hotel & Convention Centre, Chaeng Watthana, Bangkok, was attended by executives and representatives from both the public and private sectors.

The G-GREEN Awards ceremony was organized to honor and commend 357 establishments, including hotels, restaurants, national parks, and offices, for their environmentally friendly operations. The awards were categorized into 213 top-tier achievements, comprising three G-Platinum awards, 34 G-Plus awards, and 176 G-Gold (Excellent) awards. Additionally, 144 awards were presented in other categories, including 87 G-Silver (Very Good) awards and 57 G-Bronze (Good) awards. Mr. Phirun Saiyasitpanich, Director-General of the Department of Climate Change and Environment, also participated in the presentation of the awards.

Dr. Raweewan Bhuridej, MNRE’s Permanent Secretary, stated that Mr. Suchart Chomklin, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE), attaches great importance to and expresses concern for environmental issues. The Minister aims to support and promote the G-GREEN awards as a vital mechanism to elevate the standards of establishments, offices, and national parks to meet eco-friendly standards. To this end, the Department of Climate Change and Environment has continuously driven projects to promote environmentally friendly production, services, and consumption. These initiatives aim to raise awareness regarding the efficient use of resources and energy, enhance environmental management efficiency alongside waste and pollution management, and support Thailand’s transition toward a low-carbon economy and society while mitigating the impacts of climate change.

Dr. Raweewan further noted that establishments, offices, and national parks have been evaluated and certified for environmental friendliness under the G-GREEN symbol across six projects. These include the Green Production Promotion Project, the Green Hotel Promotion Project, the Sustainable Green Hotel Promotion Project (Green Hotel Plus), the Green National Park Promotion Project, the Green Office Promotion Project, and the Green Restaurant Promotion Project.

Furthermore, the event featured the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Department of Climate Change and Environment and three partner agencies: the Tourism Authority of Thailand, the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (Public Organization), and the Office of Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion. This collaboration aims to elevate the standards of eco-friendly tourism and services while enhancing the potential of SMEs to operate sustainably within the context of climate change.
