Dr. Raweewan Bhuridej, Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, in her capacity as the head of the Thai delegation at the 21st Session of the United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFF21), alongside Mr. Nikorn Sirirojananon, Director-General of the Royal Forest Department, and relevant officials, attended the negotiations to draft the Omnibus Resolution.

This resolution will serve as a key outcome of the UNFF21 meeting, detailing policy recommendations for sustainable forest management by member states, such as enhancing cooperation with various partnerships, monitoring and evaluation, member country reporting, and global forest driving mechanisms.

On this occasion, Dr. Raweewan Bhuridej, Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, also held bilateral discussions with countries and international organizations to expand forestry cooperation in accordance with the United Nations Strategic Plan for Forests (UNSPF) targets and Thai forestry policies, as follows:

1. Regarding forestry cooperation between Thailand and China: Discussions were held with Dr. Hu Yuanhui, Executive Director-General of the International Cooperation Center, National Forestry and Grassland Administration of China, on supporting the capacity building of forestry personnel through various training courses and postgraduate studies, as well as joint forest restoration efforts through APFNet. Furthermore, the Chinese representative extended an invitation to the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment to attend the APEC Ministerial Meeting on Forestry (MMF), which China will host between 27–28 July 2026 in Shenzhen, China.

2. Regarding cooperation with the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO): Discussions were held with Ms. Sheam Satkuru, Executive Director of ITTO. Previously, ITTO has supported the development of Thai teak timber for commercial trade and other member countries through the “Teak Project.” Discussions also covered forest fire management, for which a joint project proposal is currently being developed to seek financial support from the Green Climate Fund.

3. Regarding cooperation with the Department of Natural Resources of Canada: Discussions were held with Ms. Christa Mooney, Senior Policy Advisor of the Canadian Forest Service, in her capacity as the head of the Canadian delegation to the UNFF21 meeting. The talks focused on cooperation between Thailand and Canada through the Model Forest Network—a collaborative network for sustainable forest landscape and natural resource management—to develop Model Forest guidelines. Previously, Thailand implemented this model forest initiative in the Ngao Model Forest area in Lampang Province, and is currently proposing the Bang Kachao area as Thailand's second model forest.

The UNFF21 meeting was held between 11–15 May 2026, with a total of 193 United Nations member states participating, and is scheduled to adopt the Omnibus Resolution on the Outcome of the twenty-first session of the United Nations Forum on Forests on 15 May 2026
