JUNE 17, 2026 Mr. Suchart Chomklin, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE), along with the senior executive delegation of MNRE, attended the Singapore International Water Week 2026 (SIWW 2026) in the Republic of Singapore, where they were welcomed by Mrs. Chonlatee Chanrachakul, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim. On this occasion, Mr. Suchart, in his capacity as the Head of the Thai Delegation, delivered a statement at the Coastal and Flood Resilience Leaders Summit, which was opened by Ms. Grace Fu, Minister for Sustainability and the Environment and Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations of Singapore. The Minister expressed admiration for the Government of Singapore for its highly efficient water resource management despite various geographical constraints, and shared Thailand's operations in coping with the impacts of climate change on water resources and coastal situations.
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, the Thai government has prioritized comprehensive water management, tasking the MNRE with formulating a National Adaptation Plan specifically tailored to water resources. Consequently, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has proceeded with infrastructure development, resource preparedness to address flood and drought issues, and the enhancement of efficient early warning systems. Furthermore, various parallel activities were held during the event, including academic conferences and exhibitions showcasing water innovations from both the public and private sectors. The Singapore International Water Week (SIWW) is held biennially, with this year's event taking place between June 15 - 18, 2026. It serves as a vital regional international water platform for exchanging knowledge, innovations, and water technologies to prepare for water challenges, crises, and climate change. Attendance at this event therefore represents a major opportunity to discuss policy-level cooperation on water resource management, while opening avenues to exchange knowledge, technology, and water innovations, particularly as the Republic of Singapore possesses advanced water management technology and innovation that is beneficial for strengthening Thailand's capacity in water innovation and further strengthening the relations between the two countries.
