On September 7, 2026, Dr. Raweewan Bhuridej, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, along with Dr. Phirun Saiyasitpanich, Director-General of the Department of Climate Change and Environment; Mr. Bannarak Sermthong, Secretary-General of the Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning; and relevant officials, welcomed Mr. Andreas Kübler, Head of Division IK I 6, International Climate Initiative, and a delegation from the Bundesministerium für Umwelt, Klimaschutz, Naturschutz und nukleare Sicherheit (BMUKN), or Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety in Germany, during a courtesy call at the meeting room on the 17th floor of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.
The discussions focused on further advancing Thai-German cooperation under International Climate Initiative (IKI), an important mechanism supporting Thailand in greenhouse gas mitigation, climate change adaptation, climate finance, and efforts to link climate action with biodiversity conservation. The two sides exchanged views on major issues on the international agenda, particularly a just transition, access to financing and technology, and capacity development to support the transition toward a low-carbon economy. They also discussed promoting cooperation on ecosystem restoration and Nature-Positive Business to generate economic growth alongside sustainable environmental conservation.
The talks reflected the strong partnership between Thailand and the Federal Republic of Germany in advancing the climate and biodiversity agenda, as well as their commitment to translating cooperation into concrete action to support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals and strengthen Thailand's long-term environmental security.
