On September 11, 2026, Mr. Suchat Chomklin, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, together with Dr. Raweewan Bhuridej, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, and senior ministry executives, welcomed H.E. Mr. Park Yongmin, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Thailand, and a delegation from the Embassy of the Republic of Korea. The delegation paid a courtesy call and held discussions on strengthening cooperation in natural resources and the environment between Thailand and the Republic of Korea at Ratana 1 Meeting Room on the 20th floor of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment building. The discussions covered three principal areas: conservation and World Heritage inscription, climate change and the transition toward Net Zero, and sustainable improvement of national park and protected-area management. On World Heritage cooperation, Minister Suchat expressed appreciation to the South Korean government for supporting the inscription of Wat Phra Mahathat Woramahawihan, Nakhon Si Thammarat, as a new World Heritage Site, describing the achievement as a source of pride for people across Thailand. On climate change, the two sides agreed to continue cooperation on greenhouse gas reductions, particularly through work with the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), methane reduction initiatives, investment and technology exchanges supporting the clean-energy transition, and measures to reduce air pollution and particulate matter to improve people's long-term quality of life.
Thailand and South Korea are also preparing to upgrade cooperation on protected-area management. A new MOU is being prepared between the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation (DNP) and the Korea National Park Service (KNPS). Cooperation would also promote exchanges of knowledge on forest carbon credits, biodiversity conservation and protected-area management.
The Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Thailand, praised Thailand's role in advancing environmental policy and said South Korea was pleased to work closely with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment on green technology transfer, support for greenhouse gas reduction targets and efforts to generate concrete results toward shared sustainable development goals.
Mr. Suchat said Thai-Korean cooperation in natural resources and the environment is important to addressing today's environmental challenges and that the discussions represented another significant step toward producing concrete results under the Thai-Korean “green partnership.” Areas of cooperation include environmental conservation, greenhouse gas reduction, biodiversity protection and economic growth alongside sustainability. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, he said, was ready to continue advancing cooperation with the Republic of Korea to strengthen ecological security and jointly pursue sustainable development objectives at the regional and global levels.
