Today (15 November 2019), Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan was a chair of the 2nd meeting of the National Committee on Climate Change Policy (NCCC) in 2019. H.E. Mr. Varawut Silpa-archa, the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, performed as the first vice-chair and Mr. Chatuporn Burutpat, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, acted as a committee and secretary of the meeting along with executive officers attending the meeting at the Department of Environmental Quality Promotion.
In the meeting, the committee had discussed the monitoring and evaluating report of the greenhouse gas reduction from the energy sector measures year 2017. The result of the story will consider it in the next two-year progress report. According to the monitoring report, Thailand had reduced greenhouse gas emissions in 2017, a total of 51.72 million tons CO2 equal to 14% comparing to the energy and transportation sectors. During year 2021 – 2022, Thailand has a plan to reduce greenhouse gas to 53 and 55 million tons CO2 respectively by jointly implementing the measures related to greenhouse gas reduction as well as MRV system (measurement, reporting, and verification) to confirm the result of greenhouse gas reduction of Thailand and to demonstrate that Thailand has involved in solving climate change problems with the global community.
Besides, the meeting has agreed to Thailand to participate in the Nitric Acid Climate Action Group (NACAG) Initiative to promote the reduction of nitrous oxide from the nitric acid production industry. This initiative will benefit the implementation of greenhouse gas reduction in Thailand and promote technology transfer for greenhouse gas reduction in the private sector as well as support greenhouse gas reduction in Thailand in the industry sector.
