MNRE – EGAT – GIZ cerebrated 2 years of the success of RAC NAMA Fund to push forward green air conditions, refrigerators, and freezers to save energy and reduce global warming. Today (17 February 2020) at 9.30, H.E. Mr. Warawut Silpa-Archa, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, preside over the activities of GREEN COOLING REVOLUTION: RAC NAMA Fund and the Future of Thai industry and has a special speech regarding the promotion of greenhouse gas reduction from air condition and freezer industries, which concentrates on the policy of usage reduction of refrigerant that contributes to global warming. This policy helps to move forward to the target of the National Determined Contribution: NDC to reduce the amount of greenhouse gas in Thailand from 2021 – 2030, at Anantara Hotel Siam, Bangkok.
H.E. Mr. Warawut Silpa-Archa stated that the government focuses on the reduction of greenhouse gas from cooling products in two ways. Those ways include effectively using energy together with the promotion of using natural refrigerant, which has low GWP value (Global Warming Potential: GWP), by blending the format of business opportunity development, research and development, and technology and knowledge transformation with environmental problem management. Mr. Warawut also congratulated the success of RAC NAMA Fund and thanked all agencies for helping driving the operation to be complete for the benefit of environmental problem solutions in the future.
Hydrofluorocarbon (HFCs) are substances to use in several industries, such as a fire suppression system. It is also a refrigerant in air conditioners, refrigerators, freezers, which is one of the greenhouse gases that cause global warming higher than carbon dioxide from hundreds to tens of thousands of times. Accordingly, the Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy (ONEP) together with the German International Cooperation Agency (GIZ) have made a proposal RAC NAMA project to request funding from RAC NAMA Fund, by having Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) acting as a fund manager to continuously push forward air conditioner and freezer industries for two years. The project followed measures of promoting green products, developing a maintenance technician course, and setting training center for skilled artisans together with government and educational institution nationwide.
