Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment by Department of Marine and Coastal Resources joined with international organizations and private partners organized a “World Ocean Day” for the year 2020 under the theme of “Innovation for a Sustainable Ocean.”
Today (8 June 2020) at 10.00 AM., H.E. Mr. Warawut Silpa-archa, the Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, presided over the opening ceremony and received innovative marine debris management from the private sector and releasing waste collection buoy. There are also the chief executives of MNRE, international organization ambassadors, representatives of Embassy of the Kingdom of Thailand as well as private sector partners and the Governors of 7 provinces of coastal areas attending this event at the Ari Sampan meeting room, Department of Environmental Quality Promotion and also using the VDO Conference. This event aims to reflect the importance of the oceans and seas and preserve, restore, and protect marine and coastal resources for remaining sustainable.
The Minister of Natural Resources and Environment disclosed that New Normal of Conservation and Natural Resources and Environment of Thailand, as part of MNRE, after the COVID-19, has guidelines for the implementation of the cooperation of new partnerships. There are also to apply technology and innovation to support academic works to create new knowledge and control tourists, boats, cars, time, and activities in the tourist areas under the MNRE. To improve the level of care and rehabilitate natural resources and environment to be better with the reason to return precious natural resources to our children.
The activity at this event includes the exhibition of the Innovation Management of Marine and Coastal Resources. For example, there is the use of unmanned aircraft technology to explore rare marine animals, the oceanographic prediction system with coral bleaching surveillance, and the application of decommissioned offshore oil and petroleum rigs into artificial reefs.
