Today (25 June 2020) at 3 PM., at a reception room, 20th floor of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, H.E. Mr. Warawut Silpa-archa, Minister of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, welcomed Mrs. Helene Budliger Artieda, Ambassador of Swiss Confederation in Thailand, along with the delegation, for an occasion of a courtesy call. The Ambassador announced to strengthen bilateral cooperation with Thailand regarding climate change as agreed in the Paris Agreement in the project of “Electric Vehicle (EV) Fleet for Mobility and Logistic Service.”
This project aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by promoting Electric Motorcycle (EV) that uses batteries instead of fuel to support transportation and the increasing desire for delivery. Additionally, the project intends to reduce greenhouse gases in the forestry sector by restoring degraded forest areas by focusing on academic cooperation, technology, and capacity building to staff.
Minister of Natural Resources and Environment announced that General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of Thailand, places great importance on environmental issues, including climate change, PM 2.5, and plastic waste management. The implementation of the EV project relates to many departments and various sectors; therefore, it is necessary to have further study and discussion regarding the protection of fruitful forest to mitigate climate change and reduce small dust in the long run.
In June 2019, the government by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment initiated a project called “Thai Joining Hands and Planting Trees for the Land” to carry over 100 million trees by the year 2022. Founding that Thai people registered and planted 15 million trees. For plastic waste management, there is a public campaign to make people understand how to use plastic bags by reducing waste from reuse, using thickness plastic bags there can reuse 100 times, and bringing those bags into recycling and upcycling instead of using thin single used plastic bags. On this occasion, the Ambassador Confederation of Switzerland has been admired the implementation of Thailand and expressed the hope that the two countries will have the opportunity to work together closely to conserve natural resources and environment to achieve sustainable development in the future.
